MCP connections

Model Context Protocol (MCP) lets an agent check prizes, place bids, and manage servers through your Prize Bot account. You choose the access each application receives. Personal tools require User Premium; server tools require Server Premium on the selected server.

Connect an application

Your client must support remote MCP over Streamable HTTP, OAuth with PKCE, and either dynamic client registration or Client ID Metadata Documents. Check the client’s MCP setup documentation for these features.

  1. Open Connections and copy the MCP endpoint.
  2. Add the endpoint as a remote MCP server in your agent’s client. Start the client’s OAuth sign-in flow.
  3. Sign in with Discord. Check the application name, client ID, return address, and requested permissions.
  4. For server access, select each server the application may use. Choose Allow access to connect, or Deny access to return without granting access.

Never give an agent your Discord bot token, Discord access token, or dashboard cookie. The client receives its own scoped credential through OAuth.

Premium access and permissions

User Premium covers personal tools for your own account across servers you belong to. Server Premium covers management tools for that server. You need Manage Server or Administrator permission and must select the server when connecting. You do not also need User Premium.

User Premium does not grant management permissions. Server access is limited to the servers approved at connection time. Membership, permissions, subscription status, and existing feature restrictions are checked when tools run.

personal:read
Read your prizes, events, auto-bids, and notification preferences. Requires User Premium.
personal:write
Place bids, make shop purchases, remove auto-bids, and change notification preferences. Actions can spend your server currency. Requires User Premium.
server:read
Read events, settings, and community data in the servers you select. Requires Server Premium and your existing server permissions.
server:write
Create or change events and server settings using your existing permissions. Requires Server Premium for each server.

A scope is a type of access granted to the application. Read scopes allow inspection. Write scopes allow changes, such as spending server currency or publishing a Discord message. A write scope does not include read access: choose both when the agent needs to inspect and change data.

Available operations

Personal tools cover prizes, event participation, bids, shop purchases, notification preferences, and viewing or removing auto-bids. Server tools cover supported auction, giveaway, claim, shop, ticket, currency configuration, and status-board operations. The client can retrieve the current tool list with tools/list to check each operation’s inputs and permissions.

MCP does not expose billing, custom bot credentials, platform administration, quests, currency balances or balance adjustments, claim creation, giveaway duplication, or creating and updating auto-bids. Use the dashboard or Discord commands for those actions.

Instructions for agents

Read prizebot://docs/agent-guide with resources/read, or call read_agent_guide if the client does not support resources. The guide covers permissions, safe writes, retries, and error recovery. No separate skill is needed.

Revoke or reconnect

Open Connections and choose Revoke access beside an application. Revocation stops future requests; it does not undo completed actions.

Access tokens last 15 minutes; compatible clients refresh them automatically. Connections expire with the dashboard session used to authorize them (normally seven days after dashboard sign-in). Signing out ends that session’s connections. If access expires or you need different scopes or servers, authorize the client again.

Troubleshooting

  • Sign-in fails: confirm your client supports remote MCP OAuth with PKCE, then start a new connection flow. Do not reuse an old authorization link.
  • Access denied: check the granted scope, selected server, current Discord permissions, and applicable Premium plan.
  • A server is missing: Prize Bot must be installed. For server management access, check that the server has Server Premium and your account has Manage Server or Administrator permission.
  • Connection expired: authorize again. Revoking or signing out cannot be reversed by retrying the same credential.
